KUHS Class of '79 30-year Reunion

Over the weekend of August 14-16, my high school graduating class celebrated the 30th anniversary of this grand accomplishment! Much of the event was held at the Running Y Ranch just outside of Klamath Falls, Oregon. It was great to get re-acquainted with old classmates and get to know their spouses and families.

Independance Day weekend in Houston

I spent the 4th of July weekend in Houston with my friend Mindy. We had a great time just hanging out and taking it easy avoiding the heat and humidity. On Sunday, we hooked up with Lea and Marsha Safley and spent the afternoon in Kemah, on Galveston Bay, enjoying lunch at Aquarium, drinking Mojitos, and watching the boats from the boardwalk.

Frank's 80th Birthday Celebration!

On 07 June 2009, my Father, Frank, turned 80 years old. It seemed like a perfect excuse for a grand family party. As it turned out, everyone agreed and all who could make it showed up in Nampa, ID for the celebration. We had an incredible weekend filled with laughter and merrymaking!

As with any family gathering, there was also a lot of great storytelling!

My cousin Ross Lara took a few moments to show my brother Tony and I his mixing software on his laptop. Amazing!

Although friends and family came from near and far, there were a few who were unable to attend and were greatly missed. We hope to see them all at the next big family birthday bash in February 2011. More details to follow!

Happy Birthday,

Frank!

Wine Country

On Memorial Day, some friends and I took a ride to northern California's wine country. Along for the ride were
my good buddy Joe, Marques and his gf Christy, and his friend Dave and his step-daughter Danni. The weather was perfect and we had a great ride. The only regret: we didn't stop to taste any wine! Go figure!

Fallen Heroes Memorial Run

Saturday, 23 May 2009, marked the first Fallen Heroes Memorial Run to benefit a public service memorial and a baseball field in memory of Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff Jeff Mitchell, who was gunned down during a traffic stop in October 2006. His killer is still at large.

My buddy Dan Gothier, who works for the El Dorado Hills Parks Department, and his fellow coworkers, put on an incredible motorcycle run in their first effort. The day began with a pancake breakfast followed by a 114 mile run that visited Sheriff Mitchell's roadside memorial and wrapped up with a barbecue lunch. The weather was spectacular and a wonderful time was had by all. An estimated 500 bikes made the run. It was a fitting celebration for the Memorial Day weekend.

Johanna's Graduation

On 15 May, we celebrated my niece Johanna's graduation from Law School at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. We ate too much, drank too much, laughed a lot, and had a wonderful evening!

Congratulations, Jo!

Bucks Lake ride

I was awakened early Saturday morning by my phone ringing. Wrong number. So much for sleeping in. I checked my email and found a message from my riding buddy Ken Hiscox. He said he was heading out on his bike to check out a campsite for later this summer and to visit his Mother in Magalia, a small town up in the hills east of Chico. His message asked if I was interested in going for a little putt.

Anyone who knows me knows I'll never pass up an invitation to go for a ride!

Our adventure took us up into the mountains. In several places, the snow along the roadside was still over four feet high!

After departing Bucks Lake, we rode on to Quincy for a bite to eat, then west along Hwy 70 to Paradise and Ken's family in Magalia before returning to Sacramento. As Ken headed for his home in Concord, I rode with him as far as Vacaville before heading back home. We had a fun day filled with twisty roads, beautiful scenery, delicious BBQ tri-tip sandwiches, visiting family, and getting a few miles under our belts.

And this is what 417 miles of springtime California bugs on the front of my bike look like!

Lake Tahoe

I drove to Reno this past Sunday to visit family. On my way home, I drove around the lake from Incline Village, west through Tahoe City, and south along the west side of the lake past Emerald Bay. Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite places on Earth!

Summer 2008

I've enjoyed this summer and have made a few fun motorcycle rides. In late June, six buddies and I rode from Sacramento to Yosemite NP, Las Vegas, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Monterey. The weather was fabulous if not a bit hot. It was about 110 degrees when we rode into Vegas!

See the rest of my photos from this ride HERE.

Then, over the Labor Day weekend, I rode to the tiny town Lewiston CA, west of Redding, to meet my friends Debbie and Frank. I used to work with Debbie years ago in Seattle. We all rode together to the northern California coastal towns of Eureka and Crescent City and then through the Redwoods toward Grants Pass OR. I continued on solo to Medford and Klamath Falls OR. Along the ride home, as I crossed the bridge over Lake Shasta, I spotted a large aircraft floating in the lake. It is an aerial bomber used for fighting forest fires. What a beautiful bird!

You can see the photos of this trip HERE.

The last week of September, I rode with my buddies Bob & Joe on a nice loop of central Oregon and northern California to get in one more good ride before the rainy weather sets in. We kept a close eye on the forecast and logged over 1200 miles in three days, only catching about one minute of light rain! It was a great trip to end the summer riding season!

Tropical Travels 2007

April 2007 was a fun month! I spent a lot of it on airplanes resulting in two weeks on tropical islands. I was in Guam the week of 02 April and in Hawaii on the week of the 22nd.
